Four application examples from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic demonstrate how versatile the EW100 wheeled excavator from Wacker Neuson can be when used with various attachments to bring even greater efficiency to the construction site.

  • Drainage, compaction, demolition, and forestry work in Austria: Pfeffer Erdbau uses the EW100 as a versatile equipment carrier for a wide range of applications.
  • Forestry and landscape maintenance in Germany: Energieholz Hessen relies on a branch saw, felling grapple, and forestry mulcher to efficiently cut and thin vegetation and maintain terrain.
  • Inner-city construction sites and materials handling in Switzerland: The Hofmann Group uses the EW100 for demolition, terrain shaping, grading, and materials handling in confined spaces.
  • Utility networks in the Czech Republic: Krejčí Vodovody uses the EW100 as a mobile all-rounder for earthwork and materials handling in inner-city pipeline construction.

Wacker Neuson is a market leader in the wheeled excavator segment up to 10 tons. With the EW100, the company demonstrates just how versatile a modern wheeled excavator can be in everyday work. The 10-ton wheeled excavator represents a new generation of compact, high-performance machines: easy to operate, efficient in use, and so capable that, in practice, it can even handle tasks that would otherwise require larger machines. Four real-world examples from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic clearly illustrate just how broad the EW100’s range of applications can be with the right attachments—and how important the synergy between machine, tool, and operator is.
“The applications we’ve carried out for our customers impressively demonstrate the potential of the EW100 when the machine, attachment, and application are optimally coordinated,” says Fred Cordes, Managing Director of Wacker Neuson Vertrieb Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG and responsible for direct sales markets in Europe. “The fact that this efficiency fully unleashes its potential in everyday use is the result of a collaborative and practical partnership. Our sales specialists and product experts from the factory analyze applications together with our customers and optimally tailor the machine and attachments to those needs. This is precisely what delivers the performance that impresses in the application—and the enthusiasm that is immediately evident among our customers.”

Pfeffer Erdbau: One Machine Carrier for Many Tasks

At Pfeffer Erdbau, a company based in Bischofstetten, Lower Austria, the EW100 demonstrates its strengths in drainage work, compaction, demolition, and forestry applications. Using a trench cutter, for example, Gerhard Pfeffer quickly excavates trenches and installs irrigation pipes faster than when operating with a bucket. A compactor wheel then takes over for recompaction before the area is graded with the slope bucket—without changing machines. Other applications include shaping terrain profiles with a tiltrotator, removing stumps with the stump grinder, and demolition work with the hydraulic hammer. A key efficiency factor is the MiC 4.0 interface: Pre-programmed settings enable quick tool changes without the need for readjustment. For company president Gerhard Pfeffer, this is a decisive advantage in day-to-day operations: “I don’t have to worry about flow rate or how everything is set up—it just always works.” Pfeffer succinctly sums up how the EW100 not only delivers performance but also serves as a fully-fledged workspace: “It’s your office and your living room all in one.” The air-conditioned cab, comfortable seat, pleasant noise level, and 360° visability all contribute to this—key factors for long, productive applications.

Energieholz Hessen: Versatile in Forestry and Landscape Maintenance

At Energieholz Hessen in Bad Vilbel, the EW100—featuring a special green paint finish—demonstrates its versatility in light forestry work as well as in gardening and landscaping. Equipped with a branch saw, felling grapple, and forestry mulcher, the wheeled excavator handles tasks ranging from the precise grasping of individual plants to the powerful thinning of shrubs along a stream. This allows for targeted vegetation management and improved water drainage. Its compact size and stability are advantageous on rough terrain, while preset hydraulic settings simplify the operation of demanding attachments. Roadworthiness and trailer operation further enhance flexibility in day-to-day work. Henrik Jacobi of Energieholz Hessen also offers a positive assessment: “For us, this machine is an absolute all-rounder. Its application is almost daily.”

Hofmann Group: Powerful in Tight Spaces

At the Swiss Hofmann Group, the EW100 really shines on inner-city construction sites with frequent location changes, such as in Winterthur. The wheeled excavator travels directly from job site to job site, where it handles a wide variety of tasks: demolition work with concrete shears or a hydraulic hammer, terrain shaping and grading with the Rototilt system, as well as materials handling. The operating concept is also crucial here: Since the same operators do not always work on the machine, saved attachment parameters ensure clear workflows and reduce setup time. This makes the EW100 a versatile working platform capable of replacing multiple machines in tight spaces. “We no longer view the EW100 as just an excavator. With attachments such as concrete shears, a compactor plate, or a pallet fork, it becomes a versatile all-rounder that replaces several machines on the construction site,” says Beni Vogt, Executive Director, Infrastructure at Hofmann Gruppe AG.

Krejčí Vodovody: Efficient Pipeline Construction in the Czech Republic

At the Czech company Krejčí Vodovody, which builds water and sewer networks—including the associated structures and technology—the EW100 has a primary application in urban utility pipeline construction. Company owner Petr Krejčí opted for wheeled excavators in 2023 to handle earthwork, material transport, and frequent site changes with a single machine. Various buckets, grapples, pallet forks, and a hydraulic hammer can be quickly changed directly from the cab. This allows the EW100 to handle tasks on the construction site that previously required multiple machines. In addition to its high work efficiency, company owner Krejčí particularly highlights the machine’s responsive controls and cabin comfort: “Especially on long workdays and when digging precisely between existing lines, the bucket is the operator’s extended hand.” His conclusion after three years of application: Above all, the EW100 saves time and, consequently, costs.

These four real-world applications demonstrate the direction in which wheeled excavators are evolving: toward a versatile machine carrier for a wide range of applications. The success of the EW100 confirms this approach and underscores the importance of intelligent attachment integration, simple operation, and high flexibility. The consistent further development of the wheeled excavator portfolio is therefore the logical next step for Wacker Neuson—with a new product to be unveiled this fall.
