Really fit to be tied

Wacker Neuson's rebar tier DF 16 replaces conventional pliers to bind rebar steel extremely fast and efficiently. Therefore the steel fixing company Fischer put the rebar tier to the test. The result: a perfectly tied rebar, delighted steel fixers.

The team from the Fischer company based in Waldkraiburg, Germany, is processing 170 tons of structural steel during new erection of a nursing college in Pfarrkirchen near Munich. The 170 tons of steel are to be used for foundations, columns, walls and ceilings. This requires a flexible rebar tying method because the steel must be fixed not only on the floor and vertically on the walls / columns, but overhead as well.  

Alexander Fischer, owner of the iron-working operation, relies heavily on the DF 16 from Wacker Neuson. "In comparison to twisting and cutting off with the pliers, rebar fixing with the DF 16 is considerably more efficient", he says visibly satisfied. His team manages to tie more than double as many knots per hour since the introduction of the DF 16.

This is due to a simple reason: because of the ergonomic design of the device, his people can work significantly faster than with any other methods, particularly on horizontal constructions, such as ceiling or flooring slabs. Operating the tool is child's play: to tie bars, the operator places the DF 16 on the reinforcing steel and uses one hand to press it down. This releases a tie wire from the cartridge and wraps it around the reinforcing bars for tying. The loops at each end of the wire interlock and are twisted when the device is withdrawn. The machine is equipped with a cartridge containing 77 tie wires that is as rapid and simple to change as an office stapler so it is always back in action in no time.

Added to this is the ergonomic aspect. When working on horizontal surfaces, operators can work standing upright in a healthy position. The device eliminates the steps that place a strain on the body and make tying with pliers so difficult, such as the turning motion of the hand when twisting the wire and cutting it off. 

Alexander Fischer sees yet a bigger benefit of the DF 16: His building technique. "This purely mechanical machine is sturdy and ready for use at any time. It's ideal for us", he declares. In contrast to electrical rebar tiers, operators neither have to contend with downtime in order to charge batteries or plug into a power supply nor worry about moist weather conditions impacting device availability. And the DF 16 features a robust design well able to withstand the usual rough conditions on building sites. "Wacker Neuson has really very innovative products, such as that exemplified by the DF 16. Wolfgang Stengel, our product consultant at the Wacker Neuson subsidiary in Bad Aibling, had recommended just the right machine for us and given us super advice", reported Alexander Fischer. 

One thing is clear: the DF 16 was literally placed between a steel bar and a hard place by the Fischer team, but it still came out the winner because it had made an extremely strenuous and time-consuming task considerably user-friendlier and more productive.
