Vibratory plate delivers same power as 7t roller

Wacker Neuson launches its DPU 130, the world’s most powerful and modern vibratory plate
Wacker Neuson SE is pushing out the boundaries of vibratory plate performance with the
new DPU 130. The remote-controlled plate, which is nominated for the bauma innovation prize
2010 delivers enough compaction performance to replace small and medium-size
compaction rollers weighing up to seven tons. The DPU 130 is also raising the bar in safety
and user friendliness for soil compaction jobs.

Thanks to its centrifugal force of 130 kN, the DPU 130 is 30 percent more powerful than Wacker
Neuson’s DPU 100-70, currently the most powerful vibratory plate on the market. “Wacker Neuson
is opening up a new dimension in vibratory plate performance with the DPU 130. This
ground-breaking product has enabled the Group to further strengthen its position as a
development and innovation powerhouse and a global leader in the field of soil compaction,”
explains Oliver Kolmar, product manager for soil and asphalt compaction. “Thanks to its
water-cooled 21 kW Lombardini engine, the DPU 130 is the only machine in the world powerful
enough to match or even replace small and medium-size compaction rollers weighing up to
seven tons.” The DPU 130 not only delivers compaction performance comparable to these
rollers, its lower weight and compact footprint also make it considerably easier to handle and
more flexible.
Top performance and maneuverability
Featuring an entirely new base plate design with two base plates and separate, fully hydraulic
exciters, the DPU 130 is extremely maneuverable for its size. The result is a plate with unique
handling flexibility that allows it to turn corners and remain stationary, for example. It also enables
operators to continuously adjust speed without impacting the machine’s exceptional
responsiveness. “The DPU 130 is as easy to steer as a walk-behind plate yet packs as much
punch as a roller,” continues Kolmar.
Highest standards of safety and user friendliness
The DPU 130 features Wacker Neuson’s proven smart-control infrared remote steering
technology, thus eliminating hand-arm vibrations and protecting operators from exposure to
exhaust fumes, dust and noise. The DPU 130 is also equipped with a ground-breaking
self-protection system featuring a sensor that monitors vibration loads on the upper mass.
“Once values exceed a threshold caused by extremely hard surfaces such as concrete or
asphalt, a predefined self-protect response is triggered. This could involve, for example,
throttling the engine,” explains Kolmar. The ergonomic design also extends to ease-of-access
for engine components, a sophisticated diagnostics system for all main components and an
effective anti-theft protection system.
