Constant innovation in compact construction machinery based on practical experience
Leonding, Munich, January 19, 2010
At "bauma 2010", Wacker Neuson will be presenting many new products in the field of
compact construction machinery. The innovations on show demonstrate a high degree of
practicality.
The latest innovations from Wacker Neuson are testament to just how steadfastly the
company takes its cue from market trends and bases its development effort on customer
requirements. In terms of product development they would appear to be on just the right
track, with particular cause for satisfaction generated by the broad product range of VDS
compact excavators, the new dumper cabs, the hydraulic Easy Lock quick-hitch system and
the powerful 6001s Power 4-wheel drive dumper.
VDS series: Positive feedback leads to expanded product range
For its compact excavators with the Vertical Digging System (VDS) option, Wacker Neuson has
extended its product range to a total of seven models spanning weights of between 1.7t and 5t.
The benefits of the VDS option include more efficient excavation, increased cost-effectiveness on
difficult terrain and improved comfort for the operator. Success has crowned the strategy of the
compact excavator manufacturer, Wacker Neuson. “The number of excavators ordered with VDS
'
is growing out of all proportion. Customers who have bought the system once will now only
purchase excavators with VDS onboard,” says Gerhard Neudorfer, managing director, Wacker
Neuson Linz GmbH.
Wacker Neuson is the only manufacturer to offer this innovative option. VDS enables stepless
tilting of the superstructure at the touch of a button, thereby effectively levelling out gradients of
up to 27 per cent. The main benefit resides in the significantly shorter excavation times, thanks to
precise, vertical digging. On uneven terrain, VDS offers material and time savings in excavation
and back filling of up to 25%. What is more, the driver can work in an upright sitting position, for
enhanced ergonomics and comfort. “This innovation is the fruit of practical experience. In our
R&D work, market feedback plays a major role. Our objective is always to develop machinery
that will be at the cutting-edge, in terms of its technical qualities, cost-effectiveness and
ergonomics," says Mr. Neudorfer.
Thanks to the increased cost-effectiveness and efficiency offered by VDS, this goal has been
achieved. Height differences (between road and kerb, for example) can be compensated for in
seconds. The use of a hydraulic breaker kit is also made considerably easier when allied with
VDS: precise control and pinpoint application is effortless, even on really difficult terrain.
Dumper cabs: Year-round deployment and comfort
Wacker Neuson also has a strong trump card with its new dumper cabs. As protection for the
driver from environmental conditions, such as rain, cold and dust, Wacker Neuson offers a large
and roomy cab as an ex-works option for its Model 3001, 6001, 9001 and 10001+ dumpers. The
fully-equipped ROPS/FOPS Level II safety cab ensures that the driver can work in comfortable
conditions while at the same time enjoying excellent 360° visibility through the large cab windows.
The new cab concept for dumpers guarantees extended deployment time, making the dumpers
an even more cost-effective and attractive proposition. Weather-dependent downtime becomes
a thing of the past. What is more, this innovation from Wacker Neuson extends the range of
applications and ensures that schedules will be met. The generously-dimensioned cab offers
the driver maximum head and leg room. All steering and control mechanisms are ergonomically
laid out. Another benefit comes from an ability to lock both cab doors open at an angle of 180°,
thus providing maximum ventilation during warm weather.
EASY LOCK: the unique hydraulic quick-hitch system
Wacker Neuson presents a brand-new quick hitch system in the form of its EASY LOCK. The
system is perfectly matched to the kinematics of Wacker Neuson compact excavators. It prevents
collisions with the boom cylinder and ensures that there is no spillage of material from the
bucket even when at maximum dump height. EASY LOCK can be fitted ex-works on machines
from 1.3 tonnes upwards. This offers benefits in particular when excavating foundations, since it
is quick and easy to switch from one bucket to another so that you always have the right bucket
with the right dimensions. This saves not only time but also expenditure on backfill material. The
extremely low design height of the EASY LOCK quick-hitch coupler also guarantees that there is
absolutely no loss of tear-out or digging force.
The EASY LOCK quick-change system consists of a robust cast steel body and a slide with
integrated cylinder. This compact construction keeps down the weight and the tool height. The
EASY LOCK hitch is formed in such a way that stones or other foreign bodies cannot get into the
connectors or the mechanics, and the hermetic design means that no dirt can get into the
hydraulic quick-change system. The protected connectors and hose guide ensure that
trouble-free operation is always guaranteed. The system is self-tightening thanks to the conical
form of the locking mechanism, and the permanent maintenance of pressure ensures that the
connection between hitch and bucket remains solid, secure and free of any slack.
Packing a powerful punch: Wacker Neuson's 6001s Power 4-wheel drive dumper
The compact 6-tonne wheel dumper is equipped with the engine of a 9 to 10-tonne machine,
making it unique in its class. With the might of its Deutz TCD 2012T turbo diesel engine, the
6001s Power is a particularly powerful beast. Its torque of 422 Nm means that it offers up to 30%
more than other, comparable machines. Thanks to its enormous tractive power and centre-pivot
steering with an angle of +/-10.5 and +/-33°, the 6001s Power boasts excellent off-road capability,
underpinned by its high-traction tyres, supplied as standard. This makes the hydrostatic-drive
6001s Power optimally manoeuvrable on difficult terrain and capable of negotiating inclines of up
to 50% with ease. The 6001s Power is equally at home on the road, equipped as standard with
continuously-variable dual drive speeds – slow-speed from 0-5 kph and fast-speed from
0-25 kph. The machine is equipped as standard with a reinforced swivel-tipping skip, with a
steplessly-adjustable swing angle through 180°. The robust steel construction makes this
wheel dumper particularly weather resistant and durable. All servicing components are within
easy reach on the low-maintenance Wacker Neuson 6001s Power via the generously-
dimensioned engine hatch.
